The Republican’s offensive against Lisa Cook, based on accusations of mortgage fraud, rekindled the discussion about the independence of the US monetary authority
The Donald Trump government renewed on Sunday (14), an emergency request for a United States Appeals Court to dismiss the federal reserve director (the US Central Bank) Lisa Cook. In a document presented to the court on Saturday (13), Cook’s lawyers requested that the court refused the attempt, a few days ago from the Fed Monetary Policy decision, which takes place next Wednesday.
According to the director’s defense, who tries to remain in office, the Trump administration would not have shown enough causes to resign it, and there would be risks to the economy and the country if the president is allowed to remove a US BC leader.
In his response, presented on Sunday to the US Appeals Court for Columbia district, the Republican government states that Cook’s lawyers’ argument has no legal basis. Trump’s offensive against Fed’s director, based on charges of mortgage fraud, rekindled the discussion about the independence of the US monetary authority, constantly pressured by the government to cut interest.
