The president of the United States, Donald Trumpsaid this Monday (15) that would decreate national state of emergency and would federalize Washington, if necessary, after Mayor Muriel Bowser said police would not cooperate with ICE (Immigration and Customs Service).
In question is the provision of information about individuals living or entering illegally in the country.
Trump’s threat adds to a measure that critics consider a federal exaggeration, with more than 2,000 soldiers patrolling the city.
The comments were made after thousands of protesters go to the streets this month against to “restore the law, order and public safety” after he called the crime of a plague in the capital.
“In just a few weeks, the ‘place’ is in full expansion… for the first time in decades, virtually no crime,” wrote the Republican president in a publication on his social truth platform.
Bowser’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for commentary on the publication.
Previously, he is sent federal agents, including members of the immigration and customs service, to police the streets. It is unclear when your mission will end.
Trump blamed the “democrats of the radical left” for pressuring the mayor of the capital to inform the government about non -cooperation with Ice, adding that if the police interrupted cooperation with the immigration service, “crime would come back with everything.”
He added: “To the citizens and companies of Washington, DC, do not worry, I am with you and I will not allow this to happen. I will declare a state of national emergency and fell, if necessary !!!”
Bowser, who had already praised the increase in Trump’s federal police force, resulting in a sharp drop in crime, previously signed an order for the city to coordinate with the Federal Police.
