The new EU (EES), which is part of the EU Commission’s smart border agenda, was decided in 2017. After several delays, the full operation was planned for November 2024, but had to be postponed again due to considerable technical complications. The introductory phase actually starts in October. While the authorities speak of increasing efficiency and increased security at the EU external borders, critics see data law problems here.
