Smart mines operate with autonomous network -connected equipment to reduce human presence in dangerous areas

The Chinese technology company, said to journalists on Monday (15.Set.2025) that has been dialoguing with to enable a project of “smart mines” connected to advanced 5G networks, 5.5g.

Our intention is to select some mines of Mexico, Brazil and Chile to test the vehicle, network and cloud integration system. (…) We are also in conversations with Vale, one of the largest iron mining companies”Said Shao Qi, general manager of the company’s oil, gas and mining business unit, quoted by the newspaper .

The statements were made in an interview with Latin American journalists at the Yimin coal mine in the autonomous region of Mongolia Interior, China. Sought by Valor, Vale declined to comment.

The concept of smart mines implies the application of digital technologies and automation to make mineral exploration more efficient, sustainable and safe.

An intelligent mine has continuous environmental monitoring, as well as excavators, drilling and autonomous transporters, reducing the need for human presence in dangerous areas. Operators can control distance machines, while sensors, vehicles and systems remain network connected.

Advanced 5G networks are intended to provide higher data transmission speed, reducing response time, which is critical for autonomous vehicle command.

According to the report, and have been testing 5.5g since 2024, but there is still no forecast for the entry into commercial operation in the country.

Since 2019, Vale has been a self -employed equipment monitoring project using 4G networks. The project covers the mines of Carajás (PA) and São Gonçalo do Rio Baixo (MG).
