A 15-year-old teenager died on Monday after falling from a waterslide at Thermas dos Laranjais in Olímpia, 438 km from the capital. The case was registered by the suspicious death and is under investigation. According to the police report, Pedro Gabriel Silva de Oliveira, born in Campos do Jordão (SP), was in the park with family when he fell from a height of about 13 meters.
Witnesses reported that he slipped on the Top Kamikaze Top access platform, one of the highest in the park, and did not get off the waterslide. The teenager received first aid still at the scene and was taken by ambulance to Santa Casa de Olímpia, but could not resist the injuries. The body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) of Barretos.
In a statement, Thermas dos Laranjais lamented what happened and said it provided all the support to the family, following emergency protocols. The park’s management was available to the authorities to collaborate in the determination of the circumstances of the accident, reinforcing the commitment to the security of visitors.
Thermas dos Laranjais is considered the second most visited water park in the world, leader in this regard in Latin America, according to a report by Tea (Themed Entertainment Association) in partnership with AECOM. The site occupies an area of 300 thousand square meters, has complexes of slides, pool of and artificial beaches with waves, and is supplied by the warm waters of the Guarani Aquifer, with capacity for up to 20 thousand visitors per day.
