A couple buys an uninhabitable house and after the impossible reform people who visit the visit in it

The life that Jensen and Lena Christensen received the keys of their new house, a village of the 30s in the Danish town of Stige, located north of Odense, is usually projected in it.

The house was in such bad conditions that the engineer refused to go down to the basement for fear of being collapsed, as reported, where renewal was issued in the program Masterful Renovationsin which the architect David Zahle helps families transform their homes.

The couple bought the house for 1.5 million Danish crowns (just over 200,000 euros) in March 2022. However, given the conditions in which they acquired it, they had to move with their two children to a 30 -square -meter shed located outside the house.

Meanwhile, they were requesting construction permits, they did engineering calculations and worked by advancing little by little. The task list included: a new roof, new walls, different plant planes, new bathrooms, remove the staircase and put another in its place, demolish and rebuild the entire first floor, a new kitchen, new soil and a new basement.

The first thing with what they got to work was the basement, but the works were complicated and ended up building new load walls from scratch. As the renovation advanced and new problems arose, there was a point where it was evident for the family that could not comply with the budget or the calendar established initially.

They had to save, so they faced most of the renewal. “They dismantled the house inside, dismantled the roof, excavated, took out the rubble on wheelbarrows and made the preparations for radiant soil heating, the walls and the division of the rooms. Only the purely technical aspects, such as electricity, roof and plumbing, were performed by artisans,” they explained to the same medium.

It was a very arduous job, which took more time than expected, and although the family still needs the stairs that go down to the basement, many finishes and some surfaces of the ground, they have already moved and now live on the first floor and the ground floor. In differs, they already have their expected home.

“We live next to a road, and people slowly look at. The house does not look like any other here. It is made of wood and stands out from the landscape. It looks like a 11 meter high toblerone,” said Lena Christensen with laughter. “Now we have a home that we create. Everything is worth it,” said René Jensen.
