The bill that amnesty those involved in January 8 and benefits former President Jair Bolsonaro was treated as an affront to the Supreme Court in a meeting between President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Ministers Edson Fachin and Alexandre de Moraes, from the STF. The conversation took place on Tuesday afternoon at Planalto Palace, when Fachin handed Lula the invitation of his inauguration as president of the Court. The ceremony is scheduled for the next 29th.
The meeting took place one day before the vote on the PL urgent application in amnesty in the House, announced to take place on Wednesday by President Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB). Still during the visit of Fachin and Moraes to Lula, the amnesty to those involved in the attempted coup d’état was treated as unconstitutional. The Planalto Palace is in a crusade to prevent the advance in amnesty in Congress. The political articulation of the government has called the centrão ministers to mobilize their benches to vote for the overthrow of urgency.
Fachin will assume the head of the judiciary for the 2025-2027 biennium, with the end of the management of Minister Luís Roberto Barroso. In the vice presidency, Minister Alexandre de Moraes will take office and, therefore, accompanied Fachin in the delivery of the invitation.

Lula, Fachin and Moraes posed for a photo in front of Balthazar Baltimore’s clock, destroyed during the January 8th attacks. Made in the seventeenth century, it was a gift from the French court to Dom João VI and was brought to the Brazilian territory by the Portuguese royal family in 1808. The relic was repaired after a partnership of the Brazilian government with the Swiss embassy.
