The president of, defends an articulation to defeat the proposal of a broad amnesty for those convicted of the coup plot. He states that the overthrow of projects that include forgiveness to the former president (PL) is an important movement to strengthen democracy.
“We have room to dialogue, to form a majority and try to impose an amnesty defeat. I am still one of those who argue that we take the dialogue to the fullest and build the conditions to defeat the amnesty, because amnesty today would be an act against Brazil, against our democracy, against our institutions,” he says in an interview with Sheet.
Edinho also states that he is unaware of proposals that foresee the reduction of penalties for these convicts, an alternative discussed by party leaders, but says that this type of discussion should be preceded by a broad debate and contemplate society as a whole, not just a specific group.
“It cannot have casuism. If there will be a reform of the criminal code, a reform that establishes another feather dosimetry, it has to be valid for all the crimes established in the Penal Code. It can not be something casuistic. This is what I am against, that there is a casual reform,” he says.
“If you need to make a renovation of penalties, [que] Protocol a project in Congress, which Congress discusses, that society discusses, that criminalists debate, and that jurists can discuss. I think it’s normal in a democracy, “he adds.
According to Edinho, defeating the amnesty proposal is important politically to strengthen democracy in a context in which the country is the target of a government offensive, which promises.

The PT president assesses that he does not remove the risk of advancement of fascism in the country. “Fascism is greater than Bolsonaro. Edinho states that, in his opinion, the national propaganda that the PT will air should not target the governor of São Paulo ,. According to him, the line of the state program was drawn by PT Paulista.
“It is not intelligent for PT to value an interlocutor who prioritizes the defense of American interests. It is intelligent to defend national sovereignty and government actions. Choosing an interlocutor at this point that we are living in my assessment is unintelligent,” he said.
For the 2026 presidential election, he proposes the formation of what he classifies as a democratic field, aiming to reelect Lula “in the face of the risk we are living, of authoritarian advances, non -democratic advances, and incisive advances of fascist thinking, as in the world.”
Edinho acknowledges, however, that not all parties that make up the government will formally be on Lula’s stage.
The PT president says he expects União Brasil and PP to remain open to dialogue. Edinho also states that if he can collaborate to seek an understanding with the acronyms, he will act. The former mayor is related to Centrão’s leaders ,.
Edinho also defends a way out of politics for the impasse of, the target of tension between Congress, Planalto and Supreme.
“We are living in a totally contradictory system with what has decided the 1988 Constitution, in a process of emptying presidentialism. Because when Congress executes $ 52 billion in amendments, presidentialism is emptied.”
He argues that Congress’s main leaders feel at the table with executive representatives to “build a way out of politics”, with a “equilibrium point” in the execution of these resources. “Every time you have the judiciary as a moderating power of a contradiction between legislature and executive this is not good.”
One of those responsible for sewing alliances to 2026, Edinho bets on state compositions. “We will have a lot of state alliances. They will often not be formal, but they will exist. That’s why I think it is very important that we make state diagnosis and build alliances with President Lula State by state. Formal alliances and informal alliances,” he said.
