A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Petropavlovsk-Kamchasky region in Russiaon Friday (18), local time, according to the United States Geological Service (USGS).
The tremor occurred at a depth of 10km, the USGS said. After the first tremor, four other seismic shakes of magnitude 5 happened next.
The Pacific Tsunami Alert Center of the US National Meteorology Service in Hawaii issued a tsunami alert after the earthquake.
The place hit is in the same region in Forte, which was characterized as the “strongest in decades”.
After the earthquake in July, strong waves hit Russia, Japan and Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. Hours later, tsunami alerts were canceled, but smaller waves were recorded.
Epicenter of the earthquake
This Thursday (18) is in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in the Kamchatka Peninsula, in the far east of Russia, at a depth of 20.7 kilometers, according to the USGS (US Geological Service).
The place, scarcely populated, is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of intense seismic and volcanic activity on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.
