At a joint press conference held during the UK state visit, the US president admitted to being “disappointed” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he tried to negotiate a peace agreement for the Ukraine war.

Alongside British Prime Minister Keir Strmer, Trump said he expected the conflict to be easier to resolve, but acknowledged that the situation was more complex. He said he believed that the war in Ukraine would be the easiest to end, attributing this to his relationship with Putin.

However, Trump said, “He disappointed me.” In August, the US president received Putin in Alaska hoping to secure an agreement to end the conflict. Although he said they made “some great progress”, an understanding has not yet been achieved.

Strmer emphasized the need to increase international pressure on Putin, classifying his recent actions as incompatible with the search for peace. Trump, in turn, conditioned new measures to reduce European dependence on Russian oil.

At the same press conference, Trump suggested that Strmer could use the Armed Forces to control the UK borders and contain the migratory crisis caused by the arrival of small boats. The US President said he saw “millions of people” enter the US “unintempted” and that “destroys countries inside.” Strmer replied that the United Kingdom has already implemented an agreement of “One Enter, One Sai” with France, which has shown positive results.

In addition to the migratory issue, the leaders discussed the conflict in Gaza, agreeing that all hostages maintained by Hamas should be released, the ceased combat and the humanitarian aid allowed in the region. However, Trump expressed disagreement with Starmer’s plans to recognize a Palestinian state.

During the press conference, Trump also commented on the relationship between the two countries, highlighting the signing of a “technological prosperity” agreement that aims to strengthen cooperation in areas such as quantum computing and nuclear energy. He stressed that the partnership between the US and the United Kingdom is “like no other” and thanked the “excellent work” at the head of the British government.
