Pope Leo XIV appeals to responsibility and reason in the tension between Israel and will

Pope spoke about the welcome of the LGBT+ faithful in the bimilence institution, a question he described as “very sensitive” and polarizing

Pope Leo XIV ruled out any short -term doctrinal change in the place of women and the welcome of the LGBT+ faithful in the Catholic Church in the first interview since their election.

Regarding the possibility of sorting women deacons, which was debated at an international assembly in 2023 and 2024, the 70 -year -old said that “he has no intention of changing the church’s teaching on the subject” in the short term.

However, the American said he wishes to “go on the way” of the predecessor, Argentine Francisco, “naming women to leadership positions at different levels of church life.”

In the interview, included in a book released Thursday in Peru, the Pope spoke about the welcome of the LGBT+ faithful in the bimylene institution, a question he described as “very sensitive” and polarizing.

Leo XIV said he was aligned with the reception of “Everyone, all, all,” defended by Francisco, but refuted any doctrinal changes, such as recognition of same -sex marriage.

“I believe the teaching of the Church will remain as it is,” said the American, in an interview published in the book “Leo XIV, a citizen of the world, missionary of the 21st century” in Spanish.

“They are all invited, but I do not invite anyone for their particular identity,” emphasized the Pope, explaining that he did not want to “encourage polarization within the church.”

True to the teachings of the Catholic Catechism, Leo XIV reiterated his support for the “traditional family” – “father, mother and children” – whose “role, which has sometimes suffered in recent decades, must be recognized and strengthened again.”

In early September, the Pope received in private audience the American priest James Martin, one of the main defenders of the faithful homosexuals in the Catholic Church, but did not go publicly to the approximately 1,400 LGBT+ Catholics who had recently pilgrimaged within the Jubilee, the “Holy Year” of the Church.

The American, who has lived almost 20 years in Peru and also has Peruvian nationality, analyzed the challenges that place themselves to a Catholic church divided by divergent currents, four months after being elected leader.

The interview can be interpreted as a message to a segment of the church attached to tradition, while predecessor Francis insisted on the need for opening.

Francisco, who died in April at the age of 88, was the target of unprecedented internal attacks on the part of a conservative wing, particularly due to restrictions on the traditionalist Latin rite and criticism of the Roman Curia, the central government of the Holy See.

Without altering the doctrine, the Argentine increased the opening to divorced who had returned to the marriage and LGBT+faithful, and authorized blessings for same -sex couples in late 203, a decision that caused the negative reaction of conservatives, particularly in Africa and the United States.
