The dream of Flamengo’s own stadium won a new chapter. At a meeting of the Deliberative Council on Wednesday, the board, based on an in-depth study by FGV, presented a complete review of the project in the Gasometer ground, which points to a much longer completion period and a readjusted cost.

When will the Flamengo stadium be delivered?
The new forecast estimates the delivery of the Arena only between 2034 and 2036a significant delay in relation to 2029 date projected by the previous management. The site will have a capacity of 72 thousand people.
The main cause for postponement is the complex relocation of a Naturgy gas substation, which occupies more than half of the land and, according to the concessionaire, will take at least four years to be relocated.
Current management criticized the previous schedule as “unreal” for not taking into account this crucial step.
– In practice, this means that the work could not start in less than six to seven years, which would add another three years of construction – projecting the delivery of the stadium from 2034, which makes the opening period in December 2029 provided by the previously unreal management. In order to enable the stadium, FGV and Arena experts presented a new project proposal, based on more realistic premises and with a more popular profile and identified to Flamengo – said Flamengo in a statement.

In addition to the deadline, the costs were reviewed: the total, previously estimated at R $ 1.9 billion, was reevaluated for a new project of R $ 2.2 billion, considered more viable and with a more popular profile, reducing the number of premium seats.
