One in five teachers considers leaving the profession, but when we talk about younger teachers, this value goes out to half. These are the main conclusions of a study presented this Thursday.
The idea was to turn into data what the teachers think and feel. In a time marked by constant protests, there is a number that draws attention. The overwhelming majority chose this profession and would do it again.
“It’s good to know. It’s comforting to know that these people, who have a huge impact on our children’s lives, are there because they like it a lot,” says Miguel Herdade.
But the vocation is not enough. One in five of the elders thinks about leave the professiona percentage that rises to half among the younger ones. A worrying number at a time when Nearly five thousand teachers in schools are left.
“Maybe our future is committed, especially at a time when so many older teachers will be renovated and will be needed younger teachers. They complain, and rightly, mental health, social problems, school violence and families and malnutrition in the most disadvantaged schools,” he adds.
Reform is required to combat Low wages, bureaucracy and the weight of social problems. The study also says that 42% of private school teachers considered moving to the public school. One of the reasons pointed out is that it is the continuous formation.
