The Extremaduran Health Service (SES) confirmed on Wednesday the death of an 82 -year -old woman because of the Nile virus, which is already two people deceased this week for this cause in Extremadura. Both, from the area of Don Benito (Badajoz), are the first two victims throughout Spain of this fever so far this year. , like the Nile virus.
In addition, in Extremadura two new cases have been notified, two 77 -year -old men belonging to this same area and who are admitted to the Don Benito – Villanueva hospital, where there are a total of five infected patients. At least one case was asymptomatic and was detected by a blood bank screening.
This Tuesday the Epidemiological Surveillance System of Andalusia (Svea) also announced the first case in Andalusia but dates back two months ago. From the SES address, the management of the eight health areas of Extremadura has been informed to remain in a situation of surveillance in any suspicion of cases of compatible clinic, thus maintaining an attitude of alert against possible cases that allow to increase the diagnostic capacity, although 80% of the infections in humans are asymptomatic.
The SES advises to maintain in good condition the pools, ponds and rafts, and prevent them from containing objects such as dishes under pots, jugs, cubes, toys, domestic and tire dishes, among others.
It also recommends covering containers or containers with water abroad and keeping the water collection gutters clean on the roofs and drains of the courtyards, in addition to dressing light colored clothes and, if possible, cover the largest area of the body with long sleeves, long pants and closed footwear.
It also asks to avoid the use of aromatized soaps, perfumes and hair aerosols, since they can attract insects, as well as the installation of mosquito nets in doors and windows to avoid the entry of mosquitoes.
