Daughter of some Spanish exiles in France, Valeria Letelier, the protagonist of The revolutionary heart of the worldis orphan and is captured by a card of an anti -capitalist group in the seventies. On its history, Francisco Serrano’s book (Guareña, Badajoz, 43 years old) is built that has raised with the XXI 2025, and that will arrive at the bookstores on October 8. The award failure, endowed with 18,000 euros, was announced this Thursday at the Julio Muñoz Ramonet Foundation in Barcelona.
The novelist, president of the jury, described the award -winning work as a “hypnotic story.” A book that reveals “to a narrator who dominates the action, anguish and succession of episodes,” according to the jury, composed of Eva Cosculluela and the writers Bárbara Blasco and, who won this same prize in past editions. Orejudo added that in the face of the preponderant tendency of “based on real events” that has dominated literature in the last two decades, The revolutionary heart of the world claims “inventiveness and imagination.” The novel, he emphasized, builds a “non -unreal” world, but fictional and presents terrorism as “a surreal, absurd and comic phenomenon, in addition to, obviously, tragic.”

The author, Fran Serrano said the prize has filled him with “surprise and satisfaction.” He began writing without knowing very well where he would go, since his previous works are enrolled in science fiction, terror and western, genres that in the new work “articulate other ambiguities and forms.” The estrangement and inevitable separation of the same world that terrorists want to change is one of the contradictions explored by the novel (“the idea of clandestinity and that dissociation,” explained the novelist). It was also proposed to explore the dangerous magnetism that a leader exercises. Serrano mentioned the German terrorist group already as distant sources of inspiration, and clarified that in an attempt to “internationalize” his novel, he separated the plot from the history of other armed bands that acted in Spain such as ETA. “I wanted to be able to invent what I wanted,” he said.
“The romantization of violence is always complex and that is why I wanted to treat the inherent contradictions that occur. Also, how that idea of a silver bullet that solves with a single shot all the problems is not real, but it has much more attractive than the daily struggle and resistance,” said Serrano, who declared himself contrary to the “genocide” and added that what is happening today in Gaza “is”.
On his literary influences when facing this novel, Serrano talked about the exaggeration or aging of Thomas Pynchon, of the novel Libra of and the genre writer Clark Ashton Smith, close to the Lovelace circle. This is the fourth book of the Extremaduran Creator, organizer of the Literary Festival Hostia a book and co -director of the Pódcast Rancho Dracula. “The novel reads like a thriller. The tutor is preparing the pupil to hit and, when it happens, things that we do not imagine happen. It goes far beyond the idea of a novel report, “said the editorial director of Tusquets, Juan Cerezo, who also underlined the vocation of this award to bet on” new values and emerging careers “that contribute something” fresh to Spanish literature. ”
