The National Assembly of Venezuela, widely controlled by the Chavista bench, has approved, in the first discussion, which has called the approval law of the strategic association treaty and cooperation between Venezuela and Russia, as stated in the agenda. This alliance arises in full military escalation with the United States, which has already sprayed three vessels out of Venezuelan coasts and has repeatedly repeated that Nicolás Maduro, its president, must respond to the US justice for leading, supposedly, a drug cartel.

The measure is a legal instrument that would expand the field for political and economic cooperation with the Eurasian giant, a country with which there are already important agreements in military. For example, in Venezuela an AK-103 Kaláshnikov rifle factory operates with a national license.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and his Venezuelan counterpart have had a couple of personal meetings this year, in which, he has praised the current status of cooperation between the two countries, and has expressed the will of both governments to deepen them.

The official United Socialist Party of Venezuela advances this initiative while increasing military and political tension with the United States. Some of the most important members of the Government of Donald Trump – like the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio – do not hide their animosity to Maduro and the rest of the Chavista nomenclature. Rubio has been very emphatic when asking for the overthrow of the Venezuelan president, who on July 28 of last year committed an electoral fraud to re -elect. Putin has remained silent in the midst of this hard verbal exchange that Caracas maintains with the US government of Donald Trump, which has resulted in

The accusations of Maduro as the leader of the Los Soles Cartel and promoter of the Train of Aragua, Venezuelan criminal organizations, are denied daily by the leaders of the Bolivarian Revolution, who say that the country is free territory in the field of crops, and argue that these accusations seek to produce an incident that seeks to force a regime change in Venezuela.

Chavismo wanted Thursday to exhibit its fire power. Bolivarian Military Aviation (AMB) has spread images of Russian manufacturing hunting aircraft, Sukhoi Su-30, equipped with anti-manplay missiles. In Instagram images, the fighters are aligned on a track and take flight. In turn, 2,500 elite of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, and an important part of the war material of the Venezuelan Navy, have been summoned to the island of the Orchila, in the Venezuelan Caribbean. There a series of three -day military exercises will be executed on alert, which would be anticipating hostile scenarios on the high seas. This is the operation that Chavismo has baptized as a sovereign Caribbean 200.

They are weeks of maximum agitation in Caracas before the fear of an invasion. Maduro installed what the National Council has called for sovereignty and peace, a forum made up of Chavista and Independent civil actors (also Chavistas), entrepreneurs linked to the regime, private and public universities, unions and opponent politicians tolerated by the Government, in which a new call to procure peace and defend the integrity of the homeland.

As is usually the case in times of pressure, Chavista leadership adopted a plural and unitary discourse. At the same time, the PSUV makes an enormous effort to link the population to the problem, and has organized multiple political days with the national defense argument.

Maduro and Diosdado Cabello, the two hierarchs of Chavismo in power, have several times that “an aggression to Venezuela”, would bring “an armed struggle scenario, under the criteria of prolonged permanent resistance.” A scenario in which military demands could overflow with civil everyday life.

Cabello has made some very specific allusions to its adversaries in the current Venezuelan political framework: “The enemies of the homeland that are inside, Trojan horses, have to know that they will be treated as such in a scenario of foreign aggression. I don’t know where they are going to put themselves.” Rubio and Republican senators have warned Chavista leaders to undertake some action against María Corina Machado, the opposition leader, would be fatal to them.
