Defense pact between Australia and Papua New Guinea delayed

As part of the celebrations for the 50th Independence Day Papua New Guinea, the heads of government have signed a defense communiqué. Originally, Anthony Albanese and James Marape should not only have signed such an explanation, but also a contract for the mutual assistance obligation. The defense pact called “Pukpuk Treaty” (“Krokodil contract”) is intended to deepen a security agreement decided in 2023 and has already been formulated, but still needs confirmation.
