The first day of Donald Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom ended with a luxury dinner at Windsor Castle, where the presence of a Portuguese wine of high value was highlighted. According to ABC, the US President, accompanied by Melania Trump, toasted with a 1945 Vintage Warre’s Porto, a bottle that approaches two thousand euros.
According to News to the Minute, the choice of wine coincided with the tribute to Trump’s first term, being the 45th president of the United States.
A port with history and high price
According to the National Garge, a site specializing in wines and alcoholic beverages, this harvest belongs to producer Symington Family Estates and is a vintage ruby port. The bottle has 20% alcohol content and should be served between 16ºC and 18ºC.
Also according to the same source, Warre’s was founded in 1670 and was the first English wine company to settle in Portugal.
In the late eighteenth century he became a leader in Porto exports, becoming a pioneer in great traditions that are confused with the history of port wine.
The menu and the wines of dinner
In addition to the vintage port, dinner featured a selection of harmonized wines throughout the meal. Among the labels served were Wiston Estate, Cuvée, 2016; The Domaine Bonneau de Martray, Corton-Charlemagne, Grand Cru, 2018; Vineyards Ridge, Monte Bello, 2000; and POL Roger, Extra Cuvée de Réserve, 1998, according to the same national claw.
The menu, written in French, began with Panna Cotta from Cresson et oeufs of Caille sur sabelé de Parmeesan, a combination of Panna Cotta with watercress, parmesan balls and quail egg. As the Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles was not present at a previous event due to a health problem. According to Mirror, Camilla canceled part of her schedule due to acute sinusitis, which may be related to a chronic condition that prolongs symptoms.
