As a soccer coach, José Mourinho has 26 titles in 25 years of career. However, far from the pitch and near the kitchen, the current Benfica coach admits not to have great culinary skills. During a press conference in 2019, while training Tottenham, he confessed that he only dominates a simple dish and could hardly aspire to a chef.
According to Football London, British website specializing in football and English league clubs, José Mourinho revealed that his only specialty are starring eggs with sausages.
Curiosity arose in response to questions about his choice to live in a luxury hotel in Manchester, instead of leasing a villa during the passage through Tottenham.
Between the bank and the stove
Asked by journalists, the coach explained that living alone in a house would be synonymous with unhappiness. “I would have to clean, I don’t want to. I would have to iron, I don’t know. I would have to cook.
It would make starry eggs and sausages, it’s the only thing I can do, ”said Mourinho, then back to Old Trafford, Manchester United stadium, where he had come out a year earlier.
The coach added that he preferred to settle in an apartment inside a luxury hotel, where, according to his words, he had all the necessary amenities.
“I was seeing football and working with one of my assistants, and asked him to bring food to us. If he was alone in a house, it would be much more difficult. It was fine, more than well,” he said.
The routine in Istanbul
Years later, in Istanbul, Mourinho repeated the same lifestyle option. During the passage through Fenerbahçe, he stayed for months at Four Seasons, a luxury hotel where a night can exceed a thousand euros.
According to The Daily Express, a generalist British newspaper, the adaptation to local cuisine was not easy, and the coach often resorted to chicken soup orders, margherita pizza, ice cream and gas.
Despite stability off the field, within it the story was different. Over the course of 15 months, Mourinho failed to win any title and left Turkey amid controversial controversies and statements. Fenerbahçe eventually stayed behind rival Galatasaray, who continues to master the Turkish championship.
Return to Portugal
After the experience in England and Turkey, Mourinho returned to Portugal and Benfica, 25 years after the first spell at the club.
Despite the long list of achievements as a coach, “Special One” continues to take without reservations that, in the kitchen, the curriculum comes down to a dish as simple as symbolic: eggs starring sausages.
