A forest fire originated this Thursday in Pantón (Lugo) has already burned about 700 hectares and has forced to evict three population centers close to the flames. The mayor of the municipality, José Luis Álvarez, has reported that the situation “is uncontrollable” because of the wind, which has intensified in the last hours.
The adviser Do rural environment of the Xunta, María José Gómez, has detailed that the forest fire “regained strength” and “explosively” began to extend, jumping the Caribbean river until it passed to the neighboring municipality of Sober. The fire originated at 14.16 on Thursday at the place of San Cosmede, in the parish of Pombeiro, near the Sil Canyon and in an area through which the train passes.
