The president of (-PB) tries to make the agreement on the amnesty issue under the distrust of the left and the right. The episode is another statement test of an authority that is undermined by the shadow of its political godparents and the hanging and viewed trajectory as unusual between (PT) and () interests.
Despite the dubious nods, the parliamentarian has cared more for the pockets at times considered critical.
Motta was elected in February with the support of the PT and the PL and seeks if, in addition to living with the evaluation of parliamentarians that he acts under the strong influence of predecessor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI).
A politician close to him says to see in this stance a distrust of Motta with petistas and pockets, an impression that is reciprocal.
The vote on the urgent application that accelerated the amnesty to be processed to coup attacks on Wednesday (17), is the most recent example.
The PT expected from Motta to hide with the centron the overthrow of the request, which would be a political signaling of strong defeat of pockets. Governors did not oppose behind the scenes, a next step that led to an agreement on the so -called “Amnesty Light”, with reduction of penalties, but without forgiveness.
Motta chose to give a sign contrary to the desired by the governors, to allow the vote and approval of the application for a wide amnesty project, a bolsonarism project, which was widely celebrated and exploited politically by the former president’s allies.
In practice, nothing has changed in the mayor’s plan for the next step, as seen later, but the petistas did not like the nod to pockets and said that Motta risks losing control over what will come in the coming weeks.
Some parliamentarians also say that the parliamentarian’s stance took place in response to the vote of the day before, when the PT was opposed to the text and the government released its bench.
Although petistas voted in favor and were, which is the forecast of secret voting to authorize lawsuits against parliamentarians, the mayor would be expecting a more incisive gesture.
Governors complain that this is not the first of 2026. Initially, he had promised office to the PT, but retreated and chose Gervásio Maia (PSB-PB) after pressure from the center.
Petistas also fear that Motta does not honor their commitment to support a party name to occupy the next vacancy that will be opened at the Federal Court of Audit (TCU).
Despite the artillery of petistas against him, the fact is that Motta put the second original step that had planned in the discussion of amnesty: the replacement of the original project of urgency (the wide amnesty) with a text that moves to the middle ground of reducing penalties of convicts of January 8 and the coup plot, including Bolsonaro.
The rapporteur chosen by him, Paulinho da Força (Solidarity-SP), has already made it clear that he will present a “” of feathers, not a “amnesty plus”.
Centrão, led by Motta, with a wing of the (Supreme Court) to vote on the reduction of penalties and pave the way for Bolsonaro to comply with the conviction in a home regime.
Younger president of House history, Motta, 36, has been criticized by allies for being overly aligned with the government, and vice versa.
One of the capital episodes occurred when he placed in voting, without prior communication, (tax on financial operations) of Lula days after negotiating with the government alternatives to increased tax.
Another remarkable episode was the Bolsonarist riot that made the work of the house unfeasible and was symbolized by.
The demonstration only ended after an agreement sewn on Lira’s office.
In an attempt to demonstrate strength, Motta personally worked to approve the Armage PEC, something other former presidents tried and failed, especially Lira.
Despite the nods to the right, people close to say that the tendency is for Motta to approach Lula because of the election in Paraíba.
This is because he has the support of the President of the Republic to elect his father, Patos Mayor Nabor Wanderley (Republicans-PB), to a Senate vacancy in 2026-in 2022, Lula was elected with 66.62% in the state, while Bolsonaro had 33.38%.
Motta has participated in various events alongside the petista, in contrast to what happened to his predecessor. In recent weeks, he has been to the Civic-Military Parade on September 7 and the event of the Ministry of Education held at Planalto. He also had lunch with Lula earlier this week at Alvorada’s palace.
This week, Lula met with Venetian Senator Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB), likely opponent of Motta’s father in next year’s election. In the state, the mayor’s allies try to ensure Lula’s support to Nabor and isolating Venetian – which is, however, a faithful ally of the petista in the Senate.
“We also had the opportunity to dialogue about the national and state political scenario, as well as renew in advance my thanks to the president for the support and confidence in our reelection in 2026,” Venetian wrote in a publication on the networks after the meeting with the petista.
A name that has Lula’s assured support in the Senate race in Paraíba is Governor João Azevêdo (PSB). With this, there is only another place in dispute to have the support of the president.
Members of the local PT, however, say that if Hugo advances for the sake of pockets, the caption may not be engaged in his father’s campaign for senator in the next election. An ally of the parliamentarian claims not to believe it, as the executive has an unstable base and needs it to rule.
