Until unmisting information will have to be approved by the government before being used by the media, at risk that the vehicle loses access to the now-called War Department headquarters (former defender)
US Department of the US Department, Pete Hegseth, lowered a memorandum on Thursday (18.Set.2025) determining that reporters can only meet this government body to agree to undergo strict behavioral rules. This is the document in English (PDF – 21 MB). “Information from the War Department must be approved for public disclosure by an appropriate authorized official before being disclosed, even if they are not classified.”says the document obtained by the digital newspaper The Daily Wire and then confirmed by several American journalistic vehicles.
Hegseth there were already these determinations in May 2025, but the memorandum of the Thursday “Implements these guidelines, requiring accredited media to sign new documents, essentially renewing the building’s access guidelines”.explains the Daily Wire.
Before these new rules, accredited journalists entering the Pentagon (as the War Department is known, as its thirst has this geometric format) circulated with some freedom within the building. It was possible to circulate and witness the entry and exit of high -ranking generals or military visiting the war secretary. Now this type of action will no longer be allowed.
“All members of the journalistic media who have an alternative credential for Pentagon facilities [PFAC, Pentagon Facility Alternate Credential] They should read and sign a new form describing information security requirements, new physical control measures and war department expectations on meeting security requirements ”says the memo, according to the Daily Wire. Journalists will receive new credentials after signing the document with the new information access policy. These new credentials “They will have the word ‘media’ clearly printed in red letters, both vertically and horizontally, to assist in the identification of journalists.”says the memo.
All war department officials will be informed of the new guidelines for contact with the media. Journalists can only circulate through the escort building and go to the places where they are specifically authorized. The rule from now on determines that if any Pentagon employee “Any representative of a medium outside the areas described in the Appendix D that has no escort” should “Direct them back to the designated areas where there is no need to escort and alert the Pentagon Press Operations office”.
Upon learning of Daily Wire’s publication about new media guidelines in the Pentagon, Secretary Pete Hegseth: “The ‘media’ does not command the Pentagon – the people command. The media is no longer allowed to circulate through the corridors of a safe installation. Use a credential and follow the rules – or go home”.
The Pentagon had already removed from its headquarters some journalistic media vehicles from the press room earlier this year, shortly after the inauguration of Donald Trump (Republican). The spaces were offered to vehicles whose work the government considers more favorable. This also occurred at the White House, where several traditional vehicles lost their places in the room designated to accredited reporters.
The newspapers The New York Times e Washington Postpublic radio NPRthe digital newspaper Politico and TV stations NBC News e CNN had their spaces vacant inside the Pentagon this year of 2025. The places were filled by the newspaper The New York Postby digital newspapers Breitbart News, HuffPost and on TV One America News Network.
“Independent media work on the Armed Forces is essential to democracy. It is what allows citizens to blame leaders and ensures that war and peace decisions are made in daylight.”said the president of, Mike Balsamo in a note released on Friday (19.Set.2025). “This guideline [baixada por Pete Hegseth] Mina this principle, and the National Press Club appeals to the Pentagon to revoke it immediately ”. This is the NPC grade (PDF – 82 KB). The National Press Club is the most respected US Journalists Association.
War x Defense
Donald Trump at the beginning of September 2025 the name of the Department of War Department Department. The Republican thus promoted the return of the original name of this ministry, used from 1789 to 1947.
Strictly speaking, Congress must formally authorize the name of a ministry. But Trump changed anyway. The department was commonly called by its initials DOD (“Department of Defense”). Now it’s been called Dow (“Department of War”). The Pentagon website that was once with URL Defense.gov now was War.gov.
