Pontiff states that there is no future based on ‘violence, forced exile, revenge’
The Pope expressed on Sunday (21) the solidarity of the church with the population of the “martyred land” of and stated that “there is no future based on violence, forced exile, revenge,” at the end of the Angelus Sunday prayer in St. Peter’s Square. “The whole church expresses their solidarity with the brothers and sisters who suffer in this martyred land,” said the Pontiff, as Israel intensifies military operations in Palestinian territory devastated by almost two years of war.
“People need peace,” added Leo XIV to the representatives of Catholic associations gathered in St. Peter’s Square, behind a poster that said “Peace to Gaza.”
Israel began on Tuesday (16) a major offensive in the city of Gaza with the declared goal of annihilating the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, whose attack on October 7, 2023 against Israeli territory triggered the war in the Gaza Strip. The offensive, criticized by the international community, caused the escape of hundreds of thousands of inhabitants towards south of the territory.
