This pesticide does not endanger bees, but changes the brain of children

Pesticides are more than only poisons against pests. Some also affect the human brain. An example is forbidden chlorpyrifos.

Pesticide we have poisoned children

Until recently, it was used everywhere. In fields, orchards and at home against ants. Chlorpyrifos was supposed to protect crops and our homes. But in the end it turned out to do damage in the brain of children.

This pesticide is organophosphates. Which is a strong nerve poison. It works by blocking the enzymes of the nervous insect system. Therefore, pests die. But our nervous system is built similarly. So it also interferes with us in longer contact. He was extremely popular because he was effective, fast, cheap. But at the age of 90, scientists already knew they wouldn’t be so innocent.

The greatest sensitivity to the substance was observed during pregnancy Au small children. The brain grows at that time and creates nerve joints. And Chlorpyrifos interferes with slowing down, impairing memory, later appearing or concentration.

Unlike heavy metals, it does not accumulate in the body for a long time. It decomposes quite quickly. But the problem is that even a short exposure may be enough. The body cannot filter it in time. So the risk is every time the exposure occurs. In adults, this may mean dizziness or neurological problems. Much more in children.

Studies and prohibition of Pesticide in the EU

The EU banned chlorpyrifos in 2020. It was clear that there was more damage than good. Yet the fabric has long remained in circulation for various reasons. In addition, it should be noted that this pesticide has been used massively since 1965 and 80 and 90 years. It was the most widespread pesticide in the world.

Although the substance is already banned in the EU, scientists are still exploring and expanding their knowledge of how they affect the body. This year a big study was published in Jama Neurology called Brain abnormalities in children exposed before the birth of chlorpyrifos pesticide. It was not a new discovery, but rather a confirmation.

Scientists have taken data from previous years, analyzed them again and showed clearly how chlorpyrifos destroys brain development. It is a breakthrough work that has concluded a discussion on this topic stretching for at least two decades.

How is it today?

In the EU, the substance is prohibited. But it doesn’t stop there. Some states still use it, such as Brazil, Australia, and a long time. Worse, some European companies are still exporting it.

In our country, you must not spray it in the field, but it can easily return in food from abroad. Of course, imported foods are tested, but the residue of products with a forbidden substance can still reach Europe to a small extent.
