System of springs of the São Paulo Metropolitan Region (RMSP), administered by Sabesp, recorded a new drop in volume stored between September 20 and 21

The São Paulo Metropolitan Region Source System (RMSP), administered by registered a new drop in the volume stored between September 20 and 21. The index went from 32.3% to 32.1% (624.22 hm³), a reduction of 0.2 percentage points. It is the lowest level for the date since 2015, when reservoirs operated with only 11.3% of the total volume in the midst of the water crisis.

Among the main systems, Cantareira fell from 29.7% to 29.5%; High Tietê, from 25.7% to 25.5%; Guarapiranga, from 47.5% to 47.3%; Cotia, from 51.4% to 50.8%; São Lourenço, from 45.4% to 44.8%; and Rio Grande, from 53.2% to 53.0%. Only Rio Claro remained stable at 19.0%.

With low rainfall, Sabesp had already announced in August the reduction of pressure on water distribution at dawn. Last Friday (19), the São Paulo State Sanitation and Energy Regulatory Agency (Arsesp) determined the expansion of the measure: now, the so-called Night Demand Management (GDN) will be applied from 19h to 5h. The decision also provides for pressure adjustments during the day, at levels that ensure supply throughout the metropolitan region, until reservoirs recover their safety levels.
