On Tuesday, the leaders of the world will meet at the 80th meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN VZ) in New York. Representatives of the UN, leaders of 193 Member States, two observation members, as well as the European Union, will perform with speeches during the weekly general debate. The topic of this year’s debate will focus on the 80th anniversary of the UN establishment and the joint successes of its members in the field of peace, development and human rights. 80. The meeting of the General Assembly was officially started on 9 September and the next year will be led by former Foreign Minister of Germany Annalena Baerback, who in the chairmen replaced Cameroon Philémon Yang.
First speeches in order
Brazilian President Luiz Inkákio Lula da Silva will perform as the first world leader in the UN VZ plenary during the general debate on Tuesday. The Brazilian President traditionally performs first, as the UN Brazil took the initiative while the representatives of other countries hesitated. The President of the Host Country – the United States is second to the international community. After five years, Donald Trump will take this task again.
After the first two speakers, the leaders will perform on the basis of the protocol order, first the head of the state, then the vice -presidents or the successors of the throne. These will be followed by the heads of governments, ministers or other members of the delegations.

The leader is recommended to say 15 minutes, but the limit is not fixed. Cuban leader Fidel Castro, up to four and a half hours, spoke the longest in the UN history.
In addition to the UN VZ, the leaders’ topic is expected to address a number of current questions in speeches. According to Reuters, one of the leading topics will be a war in the Gaza Strip, which has lasted almost two years. At the same time, the debate will be made shortly after Britain, Portugal, Canada and Australia recognized the Palestinian state on Monday and France on Monday.
Ukraine and other events
Ukraine will also be a discussed question. According to Reuters, President Volodymyr Greenyr Greeny, according to Reuters, will strive to gain additional support for world leaders in defense against Russian aggression. His performance is scheduled for Wednesday. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will speak to the plenary on Saturday.
Negotiations between Iran and Western powers can be expected, as it has voted against the permanent abolition of sanctions against Iran for the non -compliance of the 2015 UN CC. On September 28, extensive UN sanctions will be imposed on Tehran from 28 September.
The return of Syria to the scene
Syria will break free from this year’s long -term international isolation. Ahmad Šara, President of the country, has already arrived in New York, whose insurgent Islamist forces in December last year overthrowed longtime dictator Bashar Assad. It will be the first performance of the Syrian President in the UN since 1967 and the very first at the opening meeting.
Slovakia will be presented at the UN President Peter Pellegrini. His performance is scheduled for Wednesday evening of local time. Together with other leaders on Wednesday, the President will also participate in the 5th Summit of the Crimean platform and at the reception organized by the US President. He will negotiate with the UN Secretary -General António Guterres or with the Chairwoman of the UN BAERBACK. Part of the Slovak delegation is the Minister of Foreign Affairs Juraj Blanár.
Other important topics
In addition to the above mentioned topics, this year’s UN VZ meeting will also address climate change, women’s rights or war in Sudan. Diplomats are also likely to discuss the new Secretary -General, as Guterres will expire the second five -year mandate at the end of next year.
