Empower in Brazil goes far beyond starting companies. It is about transforming, transforming others and often transforming the world around. With each crisis, with each difficulty, the Brazilian proves that he knows how to reinvent himself. It is the mother who creates a business indoors, the young man who takes a startup, the professional who, within a large company, acts as a owner and puts new ideas in motion.
And the numbers show that this spirit is no exception – it is a vocation. According to Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), six out of ten Brazilians dream of undertaking. This puts us among the countries where this journey is most valued. Already a Sebrae survey shows that opening their own business is today the third largest dream of the population, behind only buying their own home and traveling. An impressive leap, considering that in 2010, it was even distant from the ranking of the top ten wishes.

It is not just a desire: Brazil also occupies a prominent place in practice. According to GEM, our initial entrepreneurship rate (ASD) is among the highest in Latin America. This means that millions of Brazilians are involved in business with less than 3.5 years of existence – getting their hands dirty, testing, validating, growing. It is a true entrepreneurial wave that moves the economy and changes life stories.
But undertaking is not just opening CNPJ. It is also intra -entrepreneurial: to create and innovate within large organizations, act with owner spirit even without being the owner. This strength has been growing and proves that undertaking is first of all a way of looking at the world – restless, creative, willing to transform.
The path, of course, is not easy. IBGE points out that about 20% of employing companies do not survive the first year of activity. It is a hard data that shows how we still need to advance in training, support, credit access and training programs.

Still, the brightness of those who decide to take the first step is firm and strong. Because undertaking is living intensely, believing when no one else believes, is to insist because there is purpose in what you do, passion for solving problems, passion for finding the results.
Another impressive data from the Gem in Brazil: it is estimated that 42 million adults (18 and 64 years old) already had a business (formal or informal) or took some attitude to have a business. And another 48 million adults who don’t have, but would like to have a business in the next 3 years!
Brazil is, yes, an entrepreneurial nation. We are resilient, creative and moved by the desire to transform. But for this national vocation to translate into lasting results, we need to go on advancing – as a country, as companies and as individuals. I keep believing: undertaking is the largest engine of transformation that exists.
