The minister was elected on Tuesday (23) president of (Supreme Federal Court). He succeeds the minister and will be responsible for conducting the final phase of the lawsuits.
The election took place by symbolic vote unanimously at Tuesday’s session. The choice for Dino follows a tradition in the court that the oldest minister who has not yet chaired the class assumes the post.
The minister takes office in the new function in October. He will be a year as president of the board. The second class also changed the presidency almost two months ago, with elected to the post.
Dino made fun of the election of the presidency of the class. It was the first time he had a position without competitors. “The election in the Supreme is different from so many that I played. In anecdotal tone, I say it is an embarrassed election, without flavor, it is the easiest election. But in fact it is not; on the contrary, it is a very difficult election,” he said.
The minister said the election is the hardest because, among other points, it is necessary to be in the Supreme to dispute it. “Secondly, it is necessary to deserve the confidence of colleagues, peers. Thirdly, it is necessary, above all, each day to renew the confidence of the jurisdictions who come to accompany each of us when we enter here,” he added.
He also thanked Zanin for driving his collegiate with “seriousness and tranquility”. “Your excellence, throughout your career in this Court, will still exercise so many presidents and this first authorizes a very positive prognosis to subsequent.”
Flávio Dino will be responsible for conducting the final phase of the lawsuit against the former president (PL) and the other seven convicted of acting in the central nucleus of the coup plot.
The counting of the 60 -day deadline for publication of the judgment of the trial began to count on Tuesday, with the reading and approval of the minutes of the first class session that dug the sentence of the eight defendants.
The deadline is important because the defenses of convicts may only submit the embargoes against the decision after the publication of the judgment. In practice, the delay of this procedural act may postpone next year the beginning of the execution of the penalties. This scenario is considered remote in the Supreme, which tries to ensure the end of the process in 2025.
It will also be under the management of Dino that the first class of the Supreme will judge the other three centers of the coup plot, with processes already in the final stages. They are military defendants, former members of the Bolsonaro government and allies of the former president.
