The family company that was from the United States owns the house where the minister of (Supreme Federal Court) lives in Brasilia, three apartments in the city of São Paulo and land in the interior of the state.
Lex – Institute of Legal Studies was founded in 2000 and belongs to Viviane Barci de Moraes, wife of the minister, and the couple’s three children.
Both the company and Viviane were included by the US on Monday (22) in the relationship of, created to punish those who commit serious human rights violations.
The measure was a retaliation for the condemnation of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for attempted coup and related crimes. Moraes classified Donald Trump’s action as illegal and said the Brazilian judiciary.
Lex bought at the end of August a 725 m² house for R $ 12 million in Lake Sul, a high -income neighborhood of. The payment was made in two installments of $ 6 million.
Prior to the acquisition of the property, Moraes and his family lived in a functional apartment in Asa Sul, the central neighborhood of the capital.

Also on behalf of the company are three apartments in São Paulo and four lots in São Roque (SP).
Together, the three apartments total R $ 6.7 million, taking into account the amount paid when they were purchased. The first of these was bought in 2007 for R $ 1.8 million, when Moraes was a counselor of the CNJ (National Council of Justice). The property was purchased from the company responsible for building the building and has 293 m².
In 2014, the couple transferred the apartment to the Lex Institute. The amount recorded in the deed was $ 2 million.
Seven years later, in 2021, Lex bought two other apartments on the same street in São Paulo, but in another building. Moraes was already in the STF, a court for which he was appointed in 2017.
On July 2, 2021, the company paid R $ 2.5 million for a 160 m² property on the ninth floor. Two weeks later, on July 16, Lex paid $ 2.4 million for an apartment of the same size on the sixth floor.
Moraes had several public office and was a lawyer before reaching the STF. He founded the office Alexandre de Moraes – Law Firm in 2010, remaining in it until the end of 2014.
He left the office to become Secretary of Public Security in São Paulo, where he remained until the Ministry of Justice in the term of former President Michel Temer (MDB) in May 2016. He was less than a year at the post, as in March of the following year, he took office at the STF.
Before advocating, Moraes was a prosecutor in the Public Prosecution Service of São Paulo and Secretary of Justice in São Paulo, among others. In addition, he is the author of and professor at USP (University of São Paulo).
Viviane, in turn, is a lawyer and has large companies in her client portfolio. She is at the head of Barci de Moraes office, where two children of the minister also work. The bank was hired by Banco Master in early 2024, according to information from the newspaper O Globo.

Before being sabbathed by the Senate in 2017, Moraes in cases of his wife’s office. At the time, he stated that he would be “prevented in any analysis that occurs in the Supreme Court that includes any banking customers at some point”.
Upon entering the Supreme Court, Moraes began to use a functional property in Brasilia, which he left when acquiring the new home. The Supreme Court does not disclose the listing of functional properties and individualized expenses with each.
In 2024, the Court spent a total of R $ 1.4 million with this type of property, more than reverted to the STF headquarters in the same period (R $ 722 thousand). The value includes reforms, maintenance and on -demand services.
The Heritage of the Moraes Family Company includes four lots in São Roque (SP), a city in the Metropolitan Region of Sorocaba (SP).
The first two were purchased in 2001 for a value added to R $ 57 thousand. At the time, Moraes was a prosecutor of the prosecutor of São Paulo.
In 2009, the couple bought two other land in the same allotment for a value added to $ 100,000. The minister was municipal secretary of transport in the city of São Paulo in the management of Gilberto Kassab (PSD).
