Moscow (Reuters)-Kremlin said on Tuesday that he allows the new starting Nuclear Treaty with the United States to Expire next February would be risky for international security.
In a connection with reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would have to take unspecified measures if the US did not agree with President Vladimir Putin’s proposal on Monday that both sides should join the boundaries of the strategic nuclear weapons mobilized for another year.
The new start, the last nuclear agreement between the two countries, is scheduled to expire on February 5, and Peskov said it would be “virtually impossible” to negotiate a successor treaty before that – hence Putin’s suggestion to keep his limits prescribed to nuclear warheads.

“Time … is running out, and we are really on the threshold of a situation where we could run out of bilateral document that regulates strategic stability and security, which, of course, is full of great dangers from a global perspective,” Peskov said.
According to him, Putin’s initiative was not discussed in advance with US President Donald Trump.
The White House said on Monday that Putin’s proposal seemed “very good,” and Trump would approach her.

Maintaining the limits of the treaty in force would allow both sides to avoid – or at least adhered – a costly arms race that, according to nuclear experts, would probably occur if the new Start completely tamed up.
The two presidents could present him as a positive diplomatic achievement after months of telephone contacts and a summit in Alaska in August that failed to produce progress to end the Russian war in Ukraine.
Putin said on Monday that Russia would only extend its observance of the limits of the treaty if the Americans did the same.

“If they are not fulfilled on the other side, then, of course, measures will have to be taken,” Peskov said, without what measures Russia could take.
He said it is unclear when the next contact between Putin and Trump could occur. Russia and the United States have, by far, the largest nuclear arsenals in the world.
