Social Security continues to bet on digitizing services and has launched online simulators that allow us to simply calculate that state support can be entitled and how much money will receive. These tools cover installments such as family allowance, disease allowance, and other relevant support, helping families and workers better perceive available aids.
Simulators cover dozens of supports
According to Social Security itself, since May 2025 a general simulator of social benefits is available. According to the ekonomist, a website specializing in economics and finance, this tool covers close to 40 different supports, from more common subsidies to specific benefits that depend on concrete situations. Filling is done within minutes and provides a clear summary of the installments that can be requested.
The platform calls for basic information such as professional situation, household composition, income and some expenses. Based on these data, it has a personalized result and, in some cases, direct links to advance with orders.
Specific simulators for practical cases
In August 2025, simulators dedicated to family allowance and illness allowance were added. These allow you to calculate the probable amounts in more detail in very concrete situations.
In the case of family allowance, the simulator also includes disability bonuses and the so -called childhood guarantee. The disease subsidy simulator covers both workers’ own situations and children, grandchildren or dependent on chronic or cancer diseases.
Advantages and Limitations
Simulators bring greater transparency and reduce the need to resort to face -to -face services. In addition, they promote social literacy, allowing any citizen to have a quick idea of possible support.
Still, Social Security stresses that the results are only indicative. Do not replace the formal application or ensure approval. Each case will be evaluated according to the applicable rules and the documents presented.
Another limitation is that these simulators reflect only the reality of mainland Portugal. Citizens who have worked or live abroad may have different results from those that actually apply to you.
What is about to come?
Unemployment allowance has no dedicated simulator, but is included in the general simulator of social benefits. By 2023 it had already been announced, under the “clic” program, the development of intelligent simulators that attach some support automatically. Social security maintains as a priority to consolidate those that are already available and progressively widen the list.
Prepare before using the simulators
For the simulation to be more reliable, it is recommended to have information on income, aggregate composition, expenses and professional situation. Responding accurately improves the quality of estimates and aid in family financial planning.
