The work, funded by Public Notice No. 14/2024 of the Garibaldi Brazil Foundation (FGB), has the support of the Acrea Cinema Association (Asacine) and the Acrean Academy of Letters (AAL). The documentary presents reports from various experiences experienced by women who have acted as midwives in acrean rubber plantations – a profession that unites faith, devotion and vast experience in varied techniques to assist pregnant women at delivery.

“The purpose of my project is to rescue the stories of these women, childbirth professionals, whose work of dedication and love for life was silenced by a chauvinistic and manipulative society of the time. Our work aims to preserve the legacy of these strong women, who saved lives from mothers and children within the Amazon rainforest, where there was no maternity or professionals responsible for births. The strengthening of female empowerment, ”says Nonata Queiroz.

For filmmaker and historian Adalberto Queiroz, one of the directors of the documentary, the audiovisual work not only rescues, but also values, through the reports of these women, an activity of extreme relevance performed in the ends of the Amazon in a silent way – until then without recognition from the public power.

“These professionals empirically learned the secrets of the profession, combining traditional knowledge to the use of medicinal herbs taught by the indigenous people, applied to delivery services, at a time when rubber plantations lived in complete isolation,” says the filmmaker.
