Drone flights, which made Danish airports closed twice this week, were a systematic hybrid operation of a professional actor, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said on Thursday. He said after they recorded unidentified drones over four airports in Denmark. The same incident occurred on Tuesday night. According to AFP reports and BBC, TASR reports this.
POULSEN: Everything suggests that this is the work of a professional actor
Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard stated at a press conference that the incident is part of many similar events across Europe and hybrid threats must be expected in the future. According to him, the authorities investigate these cases in Denmark and do not exclude any option in terms of who can stand behind them. According to him, the aim of these attacks is to raise fear and divide society.
Poulsen described the attack as a hybrid using different types of drones. “Everything suggests that it is the work of a professional actor when we are talking about such a systematic operation in so many places, practically simultaneously,” he said.
According to Poulsen there is no evidence that Russia is behind the drone flies
According to him, the Danish armed forces have the capacity to shoot down drones, but there is currently no direct military threat to Denmark. According to the Minister of Defense, Denmark will strengthen capacities for the detection and elimination of drones.
On Friday, a meeting was convened at the EU level to discuss how to improve and strengthen readiness for drone attacks across the continent, Poulsen said. The invitation to this meeting was received by the European Commission, several Member States, including the Slovak Republic, as well as the Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Šmyhaľ. Poulsen, however, noted that there is no evidence that Russia is behind the drone flies.
A similar incident occurred on Tuesday
In response to the night incident, the Danish authorities closed the Billund Airport for several hours – the second largest airport in the country. Drones also noticed at nearby airports in Esbjerg and Sonderborg, as well as at the Military Aviation Base of the Constitution, reports Reuters.
On the night of Tuesday, the airports in Copenhagen and Osle also closed for drone flies, which Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described as the most serious attack on the Danish critical infrastructure so far. She did not rule out that Russia could be behind it.
Russian ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin denied any involvement of Russia in the incident from the beginning of the week.
