Norway and Denmark cooperate closely in investigating incidents with drones in their territories for which international airports in Oslo and Copenhagen had to interrupt operation. However, the investigation has not yet shown that the incidents were related to, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said, writes TASR.

“We have not yet shown that the investigation would find some connection between the two cases. We have also not connected them with a particular country,” said Barth Eide on the outskirts of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The observation of two or three large drones near the airport in Copenhagen on Monday evening stopped all the departures and arrivals for almost four hours. Norway has also entered into an airspace around Oslo Airport for about three hours after the drone also appeared there.

The incidents have caused attention

“Of course, I think most people would say that two such things that happen at the same time could at least indicate that there is a link between them,” the Norwegian minister continued. “We do not confirm or rule out that these two incidents are related. What we can say is that at this time of hybrid threats and a potential hybrid warfare, these are things we have to be careful about,” he added.

In recent years, Western security services are increasingly reported that Russian hybrid threats are increasingly aggressive and include everything from physical sabotage of critical infrastructure to extensive disinformation campaigns, espionage and cyber attacks.

The Norwegian government said on Tuesday that Russia had disrupted the country’s airspace three times – in April, July and August this year. She added that she could not determine with certainty whether it was a mistake or it was a provocation of Moscow.

Polish, Romanian and Estonian airspace disruptions have caused concerns in some Member States in some Member States in some Member States due to shortcomings in their air defense systems.
