Another Slovak city rejects a controversial measure: How will they stand for the feast of Freedom?

Bojnice self -government disagrees with the abolition of public holiday during November 17 – Day of Fight for Freedom and Democracy. The resolution, which rejects the already taken action under the consolidation package, was adopted by the Municipal Council (MsZ) at its Thursday meeting. It joined other cities in Slovakia. The municipality will look for ways to provide employees of the city off during this holiday.

The mayor of the city Ladislav Smatana is aware that the municipality approved the resolution only after the parliament approval, but wanted to express its disagreement. He claims that by canceling the day of public holiday during November 17, the public will not even realize and will not notice, as is happening with 28 October (the day of the independent Czech-Slovak state, note TASR)

“I think 17 November is so important that we shouldn’t really save on this. In consolidation it is not even a grain of sand from the money to save. However, the meaning of this holiday is huge. Especially nowadays, when the totalitarian ways of governance are starting to prevail, it is important to remember the struggle for freedom and democracy in the modern history of Slovakia, ”Smatana explained.

According to him, the municipality will test the possibilities of lawfully providing employees of the city off the day of 17 November.

The resolution, which disagrees with the cancellation of November 17 as a public holiday, approved at its meeting on Wednesday (24 September) I MsZ in Púchov, Informed the municipality on the social network. At the same time, the City Parliament recommended the city management, city companies and schools under the founding competence of the city to grant their employees a time off with wage compensation and pupils.
