The Attorney’s Office (Superior Court of Sports) presented on Wednesday (24.Set.2025) an appeal requesting the worsening of the penalty of Bruno Henrique, striker, according to information from the information Globo Esporte. The agency requested the reassessment of the acquittal of the player in article 243 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice.

The defense of the athlete, who in a game against Santos for the 2023 Brasileirão, also appealed the decision.

In the trial in the first instance, held on September 4, Bruno Henrique was sentenced only in article 243-A, which deals with “Acting contrary to sports ethics in order to influence the start result”. The striker was acquitted of the accusation of “Deliberately act in a harmful way to the team that defends”provided for in article 243.

The conviction was made because the player forced a yellow card, benefiting gamblers. As documented in the process, Bruno Henrique informed his brother Wander about the intention of receiving the third yellow card in that specific match.

In the appeal, the Attorney’s Office disputes the version presented by the defense that Flamengo did not suffer damage with the athlete’s action. The accusatory agency highlights 2 main points: the personal benefit obtained by the player in previously informing his brother about the intention to receive the card and the damage to the club, considering that the attacker’s involvement in the case negatively affects its market value.

The defense of the player argued in the 1st trial that the guidance to receive the card came from Flamengo himself, with the objective of serving suspension against Fortaleza to be available in the confrontation with Palmeiras.

Flamengo filed its appeal on 9 September and achieved suspensive effect, allowing the striker to continue acting normally until the judgment in the second instance.

If also convicted in article 243, Bruno Henrique may receive punishment of up to 2 years of suspension of football. The case will be tried by the Full STJD, higher court of the Sports Court.
