The family of a 80 -year -old woman who died in Bragança with a brain encephalitis is accusing the doctor of devaluing the patient’s symptoms negligently.
Nair da Costa’s family, who died at the age of 80, is accusing the Bragança hospital of medical negligence, claiming that a diagnosis fails the death of the elderly woman. The son, Cristóvão Macedo, reported that his mother has been admitted to the emergency service with serious symptoms, but never underwent neurological examinations that could have detected the true dimension of the problem.
According to the first trip to the hospital occurred after Nair complains of severe headaches, stiff neck and high fevers. Despite the severity of symptoms, the woman was sent homewith the indication that it would be before “a virus”. In the following days, the situation got worse: vomiting, intense pain and episodes of mental confusion emerged. Still, in the three subsequent trips to the hospital, analyzes were only done.
Cristóvão also accuses one of the doctors of the urgent service of inappropriate behavior and lack of empathy. “I told us that my mother spoke a lot and that she was better than us. He sent us home and He asked us not to upset anyone”He described. Despite family requests to perform more complete exams, the doctor will suggest that the user went to the family doctor. He was only prescribed an antibiotic to treat an alleged otitis.
A day later, Nair suffered serious convulsions while talking for a video of his son. Was hospitalized urgent and sent to the Bragança Hospital Intensive Care Unit, where he was diagnosed encefalite cerebralaggravated by a stroke. The elderly woman stayed in a coma for almost a month, eventually dying.
“A simple tac could have saved my mother’s life”, Says Cristóvão, who believes there was clear negligence on the part of the medical team. The family filed a complaint to the Health Regulatory (ERS) and Deco, asking for responsibilities to be determined.
The Correio da Manhã questioned the local health unit of the Northeast and ERS about the case, but even did not get any response.
