Less than 48 hours after the resignation of coach Renato Gaúcho, Fluminense already has a new commander: the club announced on Thursday (25) the hiring of Argentine Luis Zubeldía, who trained Sao Paulo between April 2024 and June 2025.

With a contract until the end of 2026, Zubeldía arrives at Tricolor das Laranjeiras following the team’s elimination in the quarterfinals of the South American Cup, a defeat that eventually resulted in the departure of Renato Gaúcho.

The club also disputes the semifinals of the Brazilian Cup, in a carioca duel against Vasco, and is in 8th in the classification table of the Brazilian Championship.

The team’s next commitment is on Sunday (28), when it receives Botafogo, in Maracanã, for the 25th round of the National.

With Zubeldía, Sao Paulo reached the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Cup in 2024, eliminated by Botafogo and Atlético Mineiro, respectively.

The coach started his career as a coach in 2008 when he took over Lanús. Since then, he has directed Barcelona de Guayaquil (EQU), Racing (ARG), LDU (EQU), Santos Laguna (MEX), Independiente Medellin (COL), Alavés (ESP) and Cerro Porteño (PAR).

In 2023, he was champion of the South American and Ecuadorian Cup by LDU.
