The municipality of Portimão announced that the city is again the stage chosen to receive the 21st Chapter of the Confraternity of the Algarve Gastronomers, on October 4th. The event will bring together about two hundred confreres of Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Italy and Greece, in a celebration dedicated to gastronomy and recognition of the best products, cooking and restaurants in the region.
The municipality stressed that this year’s edition also includes the IX Gala of the Order of Santa Maria de Ossónoba, a ceremony that distinguishes those who stood out in the valorization of Algarve, national and European cuisine. The program also includes the XXVII Chapter and 21st Chapter, an emblematic event that celebrates gastronomy, confirability fraternity and the excellence of products and professionals.
According to the municipality of Portimão, the solemn ceremony of enthronement of new members of honor, merit and siblings will be the highlight of the 21st Grand Chapter. The Order Gala will reward entities and personalities in 13 categories, including “National Kitchen Chief”, “Algarve Cooking Chief”, “Algarve Wine”, “Algarvio Restaurant” and “Dedication to Gastronomy”.
The program on October 4 begins at the Noble Hall of Portimão City Hall, where Grand Master José Manuel Alves, president of the Host Brotherhood, and the representatives of the municipality will welcome participants. At 4:30 pm, to the sound of the Philharmonic Society of Portimão, the confreres will parade through the streets of the city to the Church of the Jesuit College, where the ceremony of entronizations will take place. Among the new members stands out the mayor of Volos, Greece.
At night, the Algarve Casino Hotel, in Praia da Rocha, hosts the gala dinner and the delivery ceremony of the order of Santa Maria de Ossónoba, ending with the show “Dance Flavars”. The Algarve Gastronome Conferement considers that “awards are a public recognition to those who, with dedication and talent, contribute to praise the regional gastronomic culture”.
