The images reveal colorful stars and bright cosmic dust with a level of detail never before observed, allowing scientists to better understand mass stellar formation and intense activity on the Milky Way.
The James Webb space telescope revealed a set of colorful stars and bright dust with details never before seen in the largest cloud of Milky Way star production, NASA space agency announced on Wednesday.
“NASA’s James Webb space telescope revealed a colorful variety of massive stars and bright cosmic dust in the Sagittarius B2 molecular cloud, the most massive and active stellar formation region of our galaxy, the Milky Way,” NASA said in a statement.
The space agency said that “the powerful webb infrared instruments provide details that have never” been observed.
The NASA telescope, the European space agency and the Canadian space agency by observing the new details will allow scientists to understand some of the mysteries of mass stellar formation, according to the statement.
With the telescope it will also be possible to realize why Sagittarius B2 is much more active than the rest of the galactic center, “said the program’s main astronomer and main researcher Adam Ginsburg of the University of Florida, United States (US).
Sagittarius B2 is located a few hundred light years from the Black Hole Supermassive in the heart of the Milky Way, Sagittarius A, a densely populated region by stars, clouds of star formation and complex magnetic fields.
Infrared light detected by the Webb telescope can penetrate some of the dense clouds of the region, revealing young stars and the warm dust around them.
One of the “most notable aspects of Sagittarius B2 images” obtained by the Webb telescope is the parts that remain dark, NASA said.
The dark areas seem to be empty, but the regions are made of such dense gas and dust that the telescope can not see through the areas.
Dense clouds are the raw material for future stars and a refuge for stars that are still too young to shine.
The James Webb space telescope is the world’s leading space science observatory, according to NASA.
The US agency also indicated that the telescope is unraveling mysteries of the solar system, observing distant worlds around other stars.
James Webb also investigates the origins of the universe and the place of human beings in the universe, according to NASA.
