Victoria Damasceno-The Ragasa Superrthoph hit the Chinese city of Yangjiang, in the south in the country, on Wednesday (24) after killing at least 21 people in his time in Taiwan and the Philippines. Early this morning, the number of missing reached 124. At least 90 people were injured.

The island was more affected, with 17 victims of the total. The other four deaths were recorded in the Philippines, according to the National Council for Risk Reduction Management.

So far, all the victims of Taiwan are from Hualien County on the east coast. With the winds, a lake in the city of Guangfu, which concentrates most of the dead, overflowed and flooded the region with mud. Both agricultural areas of the municipality and urban were flooded, causing what local authorities called “serious disasters”.

The city, with agricultural vocation, prepares to launch a comprehensive assistance program for farmers who have total or partially lost their land due to the superior.

About 5,200 people, or approximately 60% of the municipality’s population, sought shelter on the highest floors of real estate, while the rest was sheltered with their families, according to local authorities.

The disaster caused President Lai Ching-Te and Prime Minister Chuo Jung-Tai to visit the disaster response center and reinforce the request for surveillance of the responsible departments, as well as verifying reports from fishing and agriculture.

According to the government, the premie has asked central and local management to implement emergency response measures to provide as much security as possible to residents.

The typhoon went about 100 km south of Hong Kong, but left damage. There were intense rain and wind records, floods and injured. Airport flights were suspended, schools were closed and workers were told to make home office to avoid damage with the arrival of the winds.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, when they passed through the city they reached 130 km/h, with the center of the superior registering winds of 195 km/h.

At least 90 people were injured, and the government opened 50 temporary shelters, in which 885 people sought refuge.

Guangdong province raised the warning to level 1, which is the highest in the four -level typhoon warning system, declaring readiness. There, 770,000 people were evacuated from risky areas, and the Chinese maritime authority first stated this year a “red wave” alert for coastal parts of Guangdong, predicting storm tides of up to 2.8 m.

The Emergency Ministry has sent tents, folding beds, lighting equipment and other rescue supplies. Some province stores and restaurants have parked large rented trucks in front of the facades in an attempt to protect them from the storm, according to local media

At Guangzhou and Shenzhen’s manufacturing and technological centers, trains, taxis and buses were removed from circulation in the period, as well as flights that were suspended. Companies closed their doors in advance to avoid damage, and local newspapers have registered races for supplies for supply of groceries.

There is a high risk of flooding in Shenzhen, with a hangover alert to stay until Thursday (25).

The first place to record damage to the typhoon was the Philippines on Tuesday afternoon, leaving at least three dead. Torrential rainfall, strong winds and floods were also recorded, as well as the suspension of classes and flights.

Ragasa graduated about the Pacific last week. Fueled by hot seas and favorable atmospheric conditions, the tropical cyclone intensified rapidly, becoming a category 5 super typhoon on Monday, with winds greater than 260 km/h. Since then it has weakened, but thus powerful to cause damage.
