Main suspects are the Russians; incident occurred in the northern region of Aalborg, and stopped lasted about three hours
Drones of unknown origin have flyed to fly over civil and military airports at the second consecutive night of incidents. The event raised the warning of the Danish authorities and caused the region’s airspace to be closed for a period. The main suspects, however, are the Russians.
The incident occurred in the northern region of Aalborg, where the airspace was invaded by drones of “various capabilities”. The stoppage lasted about three hours, occurring between 10 pm and 1 am (local time). Previously, Copenhagen airport had also been closed due to suspected overflowers.
The authorities’ main concern lies in the fact that the northern region of Denmark houses a military airport. The presence of military flights, besides civilians, increases the possibility that drones overflow could be an attempt to spy or complicate the observation and patrol systems of the area.
The incident occurs after weeks when at least three neighboring countries (Estonia, Poland and Romania) had their airspace invaded by drones and even fighters. Denmark authorities are treating the situation as part of a “new hybrid war.”
