The City Council of Arroyomolinos (Madrid), led by the Popular Party in Coalition with a local match, has canceled a talk scheduled for Saturday the community during the Pondemia of the Coronavirus. This has been denounced on Thursday the Marea de Residences association through a statement in which it ensures that the Consistory had initially given the green light to the meeting. Cancellation is argued in that text, it is due to the will to “silence” tragedy. The Consistory, however, argues that the use rate of the auditorium of the municipality had not been paid.
Manuel Rico, public director and author of the book was going to participate in the canceled event Shame: The residences scandal.
“The Chamber had been requested by the tide of residences last August and already had all the necessary permits. Only in recent days, when it began to spread publicly, the censorship of the debate was communicated,” reads the statement of the organizers. “We have reasons to think that the order comes directly from the presidency of the Community of Madrid.”
In response to the criticism of the reside tide, a municipal government spokesman indicates that the association “intended to use the auditorium of the Civic Center without paying the rate for the use of the aforementioned installation and that amounts to 294.5 euros.” The same source emphasizes that the City Council of Arroyomolinos “will always work within the framework of legality” and that the use of the Civic Center Room without the payment of the corresponding fee would have supposed a “flagrant irregularity and a treatment of unjustified favor” towards an entity that is not registered in the Municipal Registry of Associations and Citizen Entities.
However, this cancellation is the last example of a long list of cancellations that have systematically silenced the story of the relatives of the victims.
In February, more Madrid denounced that sabotage prevented the projection in Móstoles of a critical documentary with the management of residences by the Ayuso Executive during the pandemic. On that occasion, the regional deputy and councilor Mostoleño Emilio Delgado pointed to the PP for “attempting against the freedom of the people to see the information that seems to him,” despite having raised the word “freedom” during the autonomous elections of 2021.
But before that date four other initiatives had already been blocked. The first was on March 16, 2024, when the City Council of the capital withdrew a permit that had been granted to celebrate the talk Residences, this was allowed to die to our elders in which journalist Manuel Rico and two representatives of families associations were going to participate.
The second case occurred on Friday, May 10, when Madrid after a resource of the PP to the Zone Electoral Board (JEZ) in Madrid confirmed by the Provincial Electoral Board (JEP).
Just 10 days later, on May 20, there was a new blockade when the Family Commission and Social Affairs of the Madrid Assembly, controlled by the PP, which had been invited by more Madrid to talk about residences, for understanding that this expert in epidemiology was also going to talk about the events of four years ago.
And the fourth paralyzed act was organized to present on May 22 in Alcorcón, formed by a group of seven experts who, at the request of the associations, investigated what happened for almost a year.
