China’s Prime Minister Li Qiang used his speech on Friday at the UN General Assembly to criticize the advance of unilateralism and what he called the “law of the strongest.” According to him, the world goes through “a new period of turbulence” marked by commercial disputes, geopolitical tensions and environmental risks.
Without directly quoting the United States, Li associated the tariff climb imposed by the Donald Trump government with one of the main factors for the challenge of the global economy.
“When protectionist measures replace cooperation, everyone loses,” he said. The premie also stated that the Cold War mindset again manifested in international politics, challenging the order built after World War II.

Speaking on behalf of Xi Jinping, which has not participated in person in the Assembly since 2015, Li pointed out that only multilateralism can protect the interests of large and small countries.
