Orchids are one of the most frequently grown pot plants in Polish homes. However, to enjoy their flowers for a long time, it is worth learning the basic care rules and eliminate errors.
Many orchid owners leave them in the same pot for years, while orchids require regularly transplanting – Preferably once a year. Too tight, compact roots or their rot are clear signals that the plant needs a new ground. Orchids grow in mixtures based on bark, which provide them with adequate permeability and drainage. Lack of substrate replacement leads to retaining moisture and diseases that can completely stop flowering.

One of the most common problems in the care of orchids is the wrong watering. Too frequent irrigation And leaving water in a pot makes the roots rot quickly. On the other hand, forgetting the watering causes them to dry and shrink. Specialists recommend watering only when the ground is almost dry. It is also worth remembering not to soak the leaves, because it promotes the development of mold and mushrooms.
Light is the basis of every plant’s life, and orchids are no exception. They feel best in a bright but dispersed light. Window sills from the east and west are best suited for most of the year. In the summer, however, direct sunlight can burn leaves, so it is better to move the plant deep into the room. It is worth remembering that various varieties of orchids have slightly different requirements – e.g. popular Phalaenopsis prefer intermediate light, and species such as Vanda tolerate greater sunlight better.
