Ukrainian President Volodymyr Genskyj asked at a meeting with US President Donald Trump to supply long -range Tomahawk missiles at Tuesday’s meeting. These missiles would allow Kiev to hit the targets deep in Russian territory and, according to Green, could force Moscow to negotiate. Axios reported on Friday, referring to two sources familiar with the negotiations of both leaders, TASR writes.
In Wednesday’s interview for Axios confirmed that Trump had asked for another weapon system that could force Russian President Vladimir Putin to force peace negotiations, even without Ukraine having to use it.
Greeding explains the request
“I think President Trump knows it. I told him yesterday what we need, this is one thing,” said Zelenskyj. “By the way, we need it, but that does not mean that we will use it. Because if we have it, I think it will cause another pressure on Putin to sit down and negotiate,” he explained.
Axios sources on Friday confirmed that these are Tomahawk missiles. Kiev has already applied for these shots several times in the past. According to sources, this is the only system that Trump has not allowed to sell NATO countries for its further delivery to Ukraine.
Tomahawk vs. Technology Air defense
He noted that Ukraine can already hit the inland of Russia using drones. However, he pointed out that many military goals have sophisticated air defense systems that are difficult to overcome only by means of unmanned aircraft.
Tomahawk, produced by RTX, has a much larger range than the missiles that NATO has so far provided so far. They can hit targets more than 1,500 kilometers. To compare the rocket Atacms, which Kiev has, they have a range of around 300 kilometers.
Axios notes that the United States could be involved in the delivery of Tomahawk to Ukraine for a possible escalation of conflict with Russia. Limited stocks of these missiles, whose production lasts for several months, is also a problem.
