The story of Charo López, a 79 -year -old retired, was once again present in the Spanish screens. A week ago he had become viral in claiming that the approximately 2,300 euros he receives every month do not allow him to live with dignity. The controversy settled and criticism multiplied, but it has now returned to the television program, the public, to respond and clarify its position.
According to the Spanish digital newspaper, news work, Charo is a beneficiary of two pensions: about 900 euros for the renovation and another 1,400 euros of widowhood, totaling 2,300 euros a month.
Despite the sum, the reformed disputes the system. “My husband discounted a lifetime to receive a salary and I only receive 52% of that amount. The rest I don’t know who stays with him,” he stressed live. The pensioner also ensures that her pension was reduced by 200 euros due to a limit she is unaware.
“I want to live a worthy gift”
In the face of criticism of those who see in his case a privilege in the face of thousands of elderly with much lower pensions, Charo was clear. “I’m not Doris Day or Marilyn Monroe, but I put my image defending a very vulnerable collective,” he said.
For her, the question is not just personal. It is a claim about what it considers to be a right. “Young people have a future, I have only present. And what I ask is to live a decent gift, because I worked for that.”
During the program, two young people participated to remember the difficulties they face in Spain, with low salaries and work precariousness. They do not oppose the increase in pensions, but argue that the wages should grow at the same pace.
Charo agreed and appealed that he does not feed a confrontation between generations. “I protect these people because it is the future of this country and needs a worthy salary,” he said.
Accounts that don’t close
At the moment of detailing expenses, the pensioner was pragmatic. Only in food, hygiene and cleaning products, ensures spending about a thousand euros.
To these are joined by 300 euros in electricity, water and gas, 110 euros of condominium and about 100 euros for clothes and other needs, making 1,510 euros of monthly spending.
Charo owns your home, which allows you to avoid lace or mortgage charges. Still, it does not hide the fear of not being able to face winter. “I can’t be thinking if the cold comes and I can’t turn on the warm -up,” he said on the show.
According to the pensioner, he insisted on a central question: those who discounted a lifetime should be entitled to receive all of the previous value. For Charo, any reduction represents an unfair cut.
