Microsoft disables services used by Military Unit of Israel

A Microsoft He announced on Thursday that he deailed a set of cloud computing and artificial intelligence services used by a unit of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (Imod).

The measure happens after the company, through an internal analysis, found evidence that supports media reports about a Gaza and West Bank surveillance system.

In a statement published in the Microsoft President Brad Smith said the company had “ceased and disabled a set of services for a unit within the Israeli Ministry of Defense.”

On August 15, Microsoft announced that it had started a review of the allegations.

Smith said Microsoft does not provide technology “to facilitate mass vigilance of civilians,” a principle that applies “in all countries in the world.”

The review, said Smith, focused on commercial records, financial statements, internal documents and other records, without access to the content of the stored material.

An Israeli security officer said: “There is no damage to the operational capabilities of IDF.”
