Sao Paulo lost to LDU 1-0 on the night of Thursday (25), in the return game of the elimination series valid for the quarterfinals of Libertadores.

Jeison Medina scored the goal of visitors at Morumbis, in defensive failure of Bobadilla. Hernán Crespo’s team had numerous opportunities to at least not be defeated, but stopped at goalkeeper Valle and his own lack of aim.

. The Ecuadorians will face Palmeiras in the semifinal, on October 22 and 29, base dates set by Conmebol.

The adverse score and early fall in the continental competition still generated protests of the fans in Cicero Pompeu de Toledo. The main targets were members of the board, such as President Julio Casares. It even had “olé”.

Eliminated from the Cups, Tricolor Paulista will only have the Brazilian Championship for playing in the final stretch of 2025. On Monday (29), São Paulo receives Ceará, in a match of the 25th round.

How was the game?

Given the adverse result on the aggregate scoreboard, São Paulo launched the attack to seek the difference in the first half. The problem is that Hernan Crespo’s team did not do it in an organized way.

On the contrary, players, coaching staff and fans let the anxiety take over, something that made it easier for LDU. There was no shortage of chances, however, most coming out of the sides.

Rigoni and Luciano missed practically in the small area. The shirt 10 can be considered a lost goal. As who does not do, it takes, Sao Paulo was eventually punished.

In a short corner, Rodriguinho ended up having the finish fought and set the LDU counterattack. After the release of Medina, Bobadilla made the ball time, and the striker was free, face to face with Rafael, to open the scoring. It was one of the very few attacks of the Ecuadorian team.

On the return of the locker rooms, Sao Paulo ended up taking another shower of cold water. In the first few minutes, Luciano decreed the draw in Ferreira and Dinenno play, but was prevented.

The pressure continued, but Tricolor Paulista bumped into his own eagerness to return to the eliminatory and could not put dangerous finishes. The LDU, aware of the advantage, made the traditional “wax” on every possible opportunity.

The volume of Sao Paulo impressed, but the lack of aim at the time to finish, too. Lucas Moura came in to try to give the team more inspiration and even succeeded, but the problems were the same.

Amid the elimination, the tricolor fans present at Morumbis cursed President Júlio Casares and other board members.

And the game remained that way until the end. Between curses and even “Olé” of the fans, São Paulo could not leak the LDU’s goal. Only Luciano, for example, lost two clear chances of at least tie the match.

A painful elimination for Tricolor Paulista who, once again, falls in the quarterfinals of Libertadores. The script was the same in the last edition, when he lost to Botafogo, on penalties, in this same morumbi.
