Wayne Rooney spoke again about Cristiano Ronaldo and assured that there is no rivalry or resentment between them, despite the past statements that gave rise to speculation.
The former Manchester United striker, who shared a resort with the Portuguese star during several times, openly praised Ronaldo and admitted that, over time, he has reviewed his opinion on the eternal comparison with Lionel Messi.
“People think I hate him. I love him! I think he’s an absolute genius, what he does is amazing. I think people don’t realize how close we were. Just because I said Messi is better than Ronaldo, people think I don’t like Cristiano,” Rooney said in the Ferdinand river podcast.
The former English internal has also revealed that he has reflected on this comparison: “To be sincere, in the last two years, I have thought, ‘You know more?’, It will probably be the one who will be in history, Cristiano, because I still love Messi, I love to see him play, but Cristiano is tireless, an example of longevity and determination.”
Rooney ended with new praise for the Portuguese team’s captain: “Cristiano is an absolute genius in what he has done. He has just turned 40 and what he is doing is amazing. I take off his hat and I think, ‘You know more, Fair Play.’ I can’t say anything bad about him.”
